Preserved beneath Siberian permafrost for over 30,000 years after being buried by an Ice Age ground squirrel, Silene stenophylla was successfully regenerated by Russian scientists in 2012, making it one of the oldest flowering plants ever revived by humans.

Soft white flowering plant with delicate petals and slender stems painted against a pastel garden background of pinks, greens, and warm neutrals. Original painting by Christina Lewis Vizcarrondo
