In ancient Egypt, the heart — or ib — was believed to hold the truth of a person’s life. It was the seat of thought, memory, and emotion, and in death, it became the witness of one’s deeds. During judgment, the heart was weighed against the feather of Ma’at to determine if the soul had lived in harmony with truth. The Book of the Dead describes the heart as the bridge between the mortal and the eternal — the part of the self that could not lie. If it remained light, the soul was free to enter the afterlife. The Mistress of the Soul honors this sacred balance. She reminds us that the heart is not only an organ of feeling, but of wisdom — a guide that carries the memory of love long after the body is gone.
